Eighteen months ago, I began rebuilding my life after enduring physical and mental abuse from a man who is now in prison. Feeling stronger and more confident in my recovery, I went out one night with two friends I trusted. However, I lost them shortly after arriving in Manchester, leaving me vulnerable and alone. I decided to head to a pub but was there only briefly before being attacked. I was beaten, cut, kicked, and knocked unconscious.

I woke up in the police station, confused, scared, and in pain, with no memory of the attack. The police offered me a phone call, but I was too frightened to call home, so I asked for Alison Hunt, my project worker of over 18 months. To my relief, she came to the station, even though it was a Sunday afternoon.

Alison helped me through the ordeal, giving me the confidence to tell the police what had happened. At my lowest point, having her by my side made all the difference. Her support, knowledge, and belief in me kept me from falling apart.

Alison has also played a crucial role in rebuilding my relationship with my mum and stepdad. She helped them understand my choices and my recovery, bringing us closer as a family. Their support has been overwhelming, giving me strength, direction, and hope for the future. Without Alison and The Wellspring, I don’t know where I’d be. They’ve inspired me to give back and help others, just as they’ve helped me.
