Wellspring patron Mr Gordon Burns
I've been a patron of The Wellspring for quite a few years now and very proud to be so. But I feel I'm a bit of a fraud really. It's the 160 volunteers who do all the hard work looking after the homeless and the disadvantaged. All I do is help raise money by having a lot of fun myself! Each year at the start of December I compere "The Spirit of Christmas" show at the Stockport Plaza theatre. It's always a sell-out and raises lots of money. But all I do is live out my fantasies of being a great stage star!
Then once a year I put on a big quiz with the help of my colleagues with strong links to my old programme The Krypton Factor. In fact we call it The Wellspring Factor! Again that's a sell-out and brings much needed money to the Wellspring but I'm just re-living my youth!
So its hats off to the valiant band of volunteers who work so hard and put in such long hours to make life a little happier and lot more bearable to those who are down but by no means out. They do a brilliant and often thankless job. Three hearty cheers for them and the best I can do is to lead that appreciation.
Gordon Burns.
