The members of The Wellspring got something extra with their evening meal - Didi Hamann ! The Manchester City midfielder dropped into The Wellspring to help server the drinks and have a chat. His visit was part of The Premier Leagues Creating Chances scheme and the 34 year old German international was more than happy to do his bit. "City as a club does a lot of things in the community, more than any club i have known, it is important to keep a bond with people whatever background they have got" he said as he prepared to server the tea and coffee.

"It is great that clubs who have the resources can go out and help people and show them that there is a chance for everyone. " It is important that we as players give something back because we live a privileged life and we should not forget that there are people who, for whatever reason, are not in the situation that they would like to be. " I feel it is vital that clubs and the whole football family show commitment to the community and those in society who are disadvantaged. It is great that we  can support projects such as The Wellspring.

"there are lots of things that footballers do that does not get publicity and many do charity work. Obviously sometimes newspapers prefer to write about bad things rather than good ones and knock people down and it does give a false perception of players.

"These types of community schemes are great for educating clubs' own young players and for them to get involved.

"Sometimes with the young kids in football these days, success and money come very quickly and if they don?t have the right head on their shoulders they can get carried away but I don?t think that is the case with City's youngsters because they are all made aware of the position they have got and the responsibilities that go with it."

The Wellspring centre on Fletcher st Stockport won one of the blues Creating Chances places for players slots and a £2000 grant from The Premier League. Every Premier League club is taking part in the Creating Chances initiative.
