Soup kitchens.
The Wellspring charity started in 1991 as a basic soup kitchen offering food, drink and a warm place for people to spend time out of the elements. There has been a lot of talk in the news lately about Soup Kitchens and Soup runs and how inappropriate they are, the staff at The Wellspring would like to make clear that The Wellspring is not a soup kitchen anymore.
The Wellspring has evolved into a resource centre for the homeless. How many Soup Kitchens have housed 300 people? How many Soup kitchens have dedicated project staff? How many Soup Kitchens have a Nurse & a Doctor who address the health needs of people sleeping rough?

The Wellspring now offers many facilities and services that are offered along side a bowl of hot soup. Our educational classes have been popular and well attended, we continue to offer Maths and English Classes, Computer courses & Art Groups. Recently we have joined forces with Stockport?s Drug and Alcohol Service who run The Crash project at The Wellspring every Friday afternoon from 2.15pm until 4.15pm. The Crash project is a service for Drug and Alcohol users and concerned others who are worried about their loved ones Drug or Alcohol use. Many treatments are available including Acupuncture and Black box treatments. We continue to advertise Local Jobs we support and encourage people to apply for these. We also support people to create C.V?s.
Our roots lie in being a Soup Kitchen and for some people we will always be labelled a Soup Kitchen however anyone who visits The Wellspring can clearly see for themselves that this is no longer the case
