3 May 2005 - "The changing face of The Wellspring"
The changing face of the Wellspring
I have been coming to the Wellspring for the last 5 years. I have seen a lot of changes going on between the years 2003 and 2005. The Wellspring has added more constructive therapies and courses free of charge such as rides in mini coaches especially on Mondays to take people on some lovely walks. Some examples are as follows: Bramhall Hall, Bruntwood Park, Quarry Bank Mill and Lyme Park, which all the members seem to enjoy.
Since 2003 the Wellspring has started a membership system free of charge, of course.
On Tuesday?s there is an art class run by Rachel who is very pleasant. The course is run from 2.15 to 3.45pm and includes painting in watercolours and making things such as Easter, Christmas and birthday cards. We have started painting garden ornaments, which we use special paints for.

On a Tuesday night is acupuncture from 6.30 till 8.00pm, which helps with stress. On Wednesday afternoon we have a course of computers, which keeps us up to date with technology. On Thursdays after lunch we have a class of English and Maths. Jan, the teacher comes from Stopford Learning Centre. Her sessions are intended to improve Maths and English. Some members have finished with certificates after coming to the classes.
On Friday we have a mosaic class, run by Cherry between 2.15 and 4.30pm, which makes almost anything from mosaic cup mats to painted glass jars or you can also do your own patterns with books she brings for you to study and get ideas from. The new nurse Lucy has also had her own treatment room or surgery built which caters for many things such as dressing, flu injections, some good sound advice, acupuncture.
In the Christmas period there is always a show shown at the Plaza theatre, which helps to raise money for the running of Wellsprings. Sponsored by Gordon Burns. This Christmas 2004-05 there was such artists as Romiley cooperative society singing ABBA, shows from west side story with many more artists on Wellsprings also have some very good Christmas dinners, one a week before Christmas with lots of funny Christmas presents.
The television, which was always in the right hand corner, has now been moved to above eye level. It is on most days so you may watch sport or Emerdale or whatever takes your fancy. Since 2003 Paul and Jon will helped you to be a member and a new office has been built with computerised system in it. These two lads are full time staff who help you with bedding, housing, shower facilities, clothing, toiletries etc. last summer 2004 Wellspring opened its own allotment which is located near Bredbury and some of the members have asked to grow their own vegetables which in turn are hoping to plough back into the Wellspring in their many stews and soups that they make here for evening tea and lunch. All this happened since 2003, which has been quite a big change for the Wellspring and this part of Stockport. In fact you can even have a haircut on a Thursday for just £1 so you can see or read that just a few things have changed since 2003.
This building is not just for homeless or low income but for anybody. Another feature is always harvest festival when a lot of local schools and send food from their schools and churches, which is the true meaning of harvest. When I first came to Wellspring in 1999 all these facilities did not exist so Wellspring has helped people to learn all or some of these subjects plus good food, to help meet different people from all different lives. In 1999 from food showers, clean bedding, clothes from socks to skirts, body warmers etc you can read or see for yourself the changes that have occurred.
