24 Feb 2005 - Betty's Story

I've been a volunteer at The Wellspring for just over 12 months. I had retired after nursing for forty years and had worked with the homeless in Manchester via the church i attend.
I really enjoy working in the kitchen opening tins, making sandwiches, serving the food and drinks and cleaning up after the session. One of the most enjoyable aspects is seeing the members tucking into the food, also chatting and listening to them and making them feel valued, after all they are the reason for The Wellsprings existance.
All the people i work with are very sepecial, we have loads of fun, laugh a lot and work hard. Another labour of love Ive been priviledged to do is visit several schools to thank them for their amazing generosity in providing The Wellspring with tinned food. My visual aids include not "top of the pops" but "top of the tins" the twenty most popular foods we use at The Wellspring and a table laid with a meal similar to what we give our members ( i take soup and coffee in flasks so its steaming hot ) sandwiches, flowers for the table, the children love it as do the teachers and parents. I'm thrilled to work at The Wellspring, proud of what is achieved and excited for the future.

Above is a photo of me and my team.
