20 Dec 2008 - The Reality of Rough Sleeping in Stockport
The Reality of Rough Sleeping in Stockport.
Rough sleeping in Stockport is very much a problem, in the last "Rough Sleeper Official Count" Stockport only had 1 Rough Sleeper, this is very inaccurate, The Wellspring estimates that around 50-60 people are Homeless in Stockport at any one time of the year.
Although there is no "Carboard City" area in Stockport, Homeless people and rough sleepers are spread right across the borough.
In recent years The Wellspring has supported over 500 Rough Sleepers and Homeless people off the streets and into housing, all these people were sleeping rough or homeless on the streets of Stockport at some time.
Please support The Wellspring by making a donation online today and support us to support one of the most vulnerable groups of people in our community.
Pictured is a Homeless person in Stockport, this person would not be included in a "Official Rough Sleeper Count" as he is NOT ASLEEP ! and
he has COVER from the elements over his head.
To be included in A "Official Rough Sleeper Count" you must be ASLEEP under the stars with no COVER over your head.
Rough Sleeper counts are also flawed as the count will only take place around "Safe" areas. Homeless people often Sleep in Dangerous places such as under motorway bridges, rough sleeper counts would not go anywhere near these places as they only count people in the town centre, where it is deemed "Safe" for staff to visit.
The Town Centre is a very dangerous place for Homeless people to sleep rough, Homeless people have been Murdered on the streets of the town centre in recent years. Please click here for further details of this.
The Wellspring provides regular outreach to Homeless people in all areas of our community.
